School Social Workers Pushing Son of House Bill 586

HEIR has obtained a copy of a memo to the Legislative Committee and the District Presidents of the Georgia Association of School Social Workers that is of particular interest and importance to homeschoolers.

(If you want to see the fax rather than the HTML representation of it, you can use ftp to download the individual FAX pages in .pcx format, or in .fxr (WinFax) format. These are rather large files, so it may take some time.)

The memo from Nathaniel Shelton, Legislative Committee Chair of the Georgia Association of School Social Workers begins:
"Enclosed please find a DRAFT of the Bill regarding the Home Study Program that Representative Carolyn Hugley of Columbus FAXED to me on Thursday, 8-14. Please disperse among fellow SSW'S. This draft is a result of our meeting with Representative Hugley in Macon in early July along with Jim Bell and Dr. Aleem J. Hud. Rep. Hugley stated that because of the climate she and other legislators are experiencing with parents that have Home Study Programs, she feel this probably is the best that might pass if we are lucky."
The memo includes a survey which asks questions like
"Give the number of HSP where parent(s) abuse their children."

"Number of students returning to public schools and experienced problems in:
a. Socialization __________________ b. Behavioral___________________"

The memo concludes:
"Depending on the outcome of this bill it might be the vehicle that will help us get more SSWS in the schools."

HEIR has asked to be notified regarding the House Education Committee meetings, and will post email when the meeting is scheduled.
