6th District Candidate Gary Pelphrey (gary@pelphrey.org) responded to questions from HEIR on Tuesday, February 09, 1999 at 9:54 PM. Here are the questions with his answers:

Dear Candidates for the 6th District:

Home Education Information Resource is volunteer group which monitors legislation and candidates on positions related to home education. We do not endorse individual candidates but seek to provide information to the public through our newsletter, email updates and our website, www.heir.org.

Please respond to the questions below. We will post your response on our website as you make it available to us. You may also post your own messages on our site's bulletin board.

  1. What is your position on home education?
Home education is a terrible indictment of the public education system, and an unnecessary drain on the resources of the individual families that choose that route.
  2. What role, if any, should the federal government play in home education?
It should participate with the state and local governments in ensuring that an acceptable education achievement level is met.
  3. Who are your main contributors?
That is a matter of public record.
  4. What groups have endorsed you?
    I don't know; I don't keep track.
  5. What would you try to achieve as representative of the 6th district?
Restore honesty in government, and thereby, trust.
  6. Other comments:
    (none)

Thank you for your response and for your service to the community.

Sincerely,

Leon McGinnis
Chair
