On Sunday afternoon, Januray 31, 1999, twenty members of the Coalition
for Equitable USG Admissions met to develop a response to Chancellor
Portch's letter of January 20 regarding USG admissions policies for home
and unaccredited-private schooled students. It was an upbeat, lively
meeting with plenty of friendly give and take on the issues. The feeling
of the group was unanimous that the Chancellor's letter misinterpreted the
Coalition's September 30, 1998 proposal and offered little of substance to
the home school community, except the possible re-opening of joint
enrollment. Therefore, on Monday, February 1, the Coalition
delivered a
letter to the Chancellor in essence requesting an early, genuine,
face-to-face dialogue to rapidly resolve the issues.
