Senate Votes Student Honors Program for Home Study Students

[News page]

On 3/1/99 the Georgia Senate voted 50-0 to include students in home study programs among those eligible for the student honors program, but SB112 died in the House after a second reading. The legislation was sponsored by senators Brush of the 24th district, Cheeks of the 23rd, and Price of the 56th. Six senators abstained.

According to a 1998 ruling of the Attorney General the law does not authorize the State Board of Education to include students in home study programs in the Governor's honors program.
