GET READY FOR HOME EDUCATION WEEK

The Georgia Legislature has set the week of February 3-7 2003 as Home Education week. On Thursday February 6, Home School organizations are allowed to set up tables, display pictures, information, etc. inside the Capitol. This is a day when Homeschoolers across the state get to chat, mingle and with elected state officials and make a case for providing alternative education for our children.

In television ads, prior to the elections on Nov. 5, President Bush made statements saying education needs to be returned to local governments. One way to ensure this happens is to bring our homeschooled children to the Capitol and let our representatives, senators, and other government officials, including the Governor, meet our students and see that home education is a viable alternative to public and private schools.

Many of you have probably read the emails on one of the homeschool loops about the situation in California, where one person has decided that home education is not a recognized, or legal alternative to Government sponsored education. This is a reality and can happen in Georgia if we don’t keep our state officials informed and “educated”.

Home Education is growing by leaps and bounds in our state and nation. One of the ways that this right can be preserved for our children in the future is to show up on Capitol Day, February 6th, and show these officials our numbers and our resolve. These representatives want to be re-elected and the only way they can accomplish that is to do the will of their constituents. Let’s show them that home education is not just a fad or phase, but that it represents a growing segment of our state, an educated segment.

Please mark your calendars NOW to attend Capitol Day, February 6th and help represent Home Education. Just one or two hours of your time and attendance at the event will demonstrate to our elected officials the importance of allowing families to make the decisions regarding the education of their children, which by the way, is our God given right. It is also a great opportunity to allow your children to see the Legislative Branch of our state Government in action.

Please make plans to attend this most important event on February 6th, and help ensure Home Education continues to be a viable education opportunity for the children of Georgia.
