On April 16, 1999 William Schleifer, 16, of Hall County Home Educators, was informed that he has won the 1999 United States National Federation of Music Clubs - National Junior Composers Contest for the 16 - 18 year old age group. William’s original piano composition is entitled “Fantasia in D# minor”, a piece in the style of the late romantic period of classical music. Earlier this month William was notified that he had won the competition for the state of Georgia and that his manuscript and recording had been sent to the southeast regional competition (8 states). William received a cash prize for winning the regional competition and the honor of competing on the national level. His national win presented him with the top cash prize and the opportunity to play his piece for several Federation of Music Clubs events. For the past 8 years William has taken piano from Mr. Keith Jefcoat, and music theory from Mrs. Priscilla Jefcoat, both of Brenau University.
