Another Black Belt in the Ward Family

Caitlin Ward, age 18, passed her 1st Degree Black Belt Test on November 20, 2004, at American Kenpo Karate in Snellville. This makes her the second member of the Ward family to earn her Black Belt this year. In July, brother Michael, age 13, earned his 1st Degree Black Belt. Caitlin and Michael are both assistant instructors at the American Kenpo Karate studio.

Both Caitlin and Michael have been home educated all their lives. In addition to karate, Caitlin takes guitar lessons, participates annually in the summer Firespark! program at Brenau University where she studies technical theatre and stage combat, and (following 9 years of dance lessons) she can still be seen performing in Gwinnett Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker - but now, she appears as a party parent.

Michael enjoys karate, looks forward to attending Firespark! this summer along with his sister, and aspires to owning the karate studio when the current owner retires one day.  They both encourage more homeschoolers to come out and give karate a try.
