Heir Jobs

Some of the roles HEIR needs volunteers to fill include:
Phone Volunteer Notify families without e-mail of important alerts. If interested please E-mail our Communication Chair c/o HEIR at info@heir.org
County Volunteer Please do at least the first item:
  • While establishing a relationship with state congressional members to keep the positive face of home schooling in the minds of the leaders, will provide state congressional leaders, within the county, with information supplied by HEIR for resource purposes.
  • Report any scheduled fairs, events scheduled in district where HEIR could be present.
  • Will notify HEIR directly if the county desires to host HEIR at a meeting in a library, forum discussion, etc.
  • Will work to recruit families to "get to know their legislators" both GA house and Senate within each county.
  • Will recruit other volunteers to assist if HEIR is invited to participate in an event held in the county.
  • Will place HEIR brochures throughout the county where home schoolers may frequent- i.e. libraries, book stores, etc. Provide a local number for interested home schoolers to contact.
If interested please
E-mail our Communication Chair c/o HEIR at at info@heir.org
Table Volunteer For each event at which HEIR has a table, HEIR needs volunteers to be present to answer questions. If interested please E-mail our Fair Chair at info@heir.org
Assist Fair Chair HEIR also needs someone to assist our Fair Chair to keep track of all the fairs, conferences and expos that we have an opportunity to attend each year. This would involve corresponding with each fair's organizer to make sure that HEIR has space, can send speakers if needed, has an ad in the program, knows when to set-up and take down and knows well in advance when the fair will take place so that HEIR volunteers can be present at HEIR's table to answer questions. If interested please E-mail our Fair Chair at info@heir.org
Database Maintenainer The HEIR database contains information that allows HEIR to stay in touch with Georgia homeschoolers. The records allow us to track name, mailing address, telephone, fax, email, support group affiliation, and interest in HEIR meetings, email updates, newsletter (if we revive it), and various volunteer opportunities. All of the items in the record are "optional," of course, but without some contact information, the record is not useful. We need to add records to the database for individuals who "register" online, through the website, and for individuals who "register" by filling out a form at a fair or conference, or who contact us in some other way. The database is implemented in Microsoft Access, with convenient forms for editing the records, predefined reports for generating e-mail distribution lists, mailing labels, etc. The total amount of time required for database maintenance is less than a couple hours per week. The person doing the maintenance does need to have Microsoft Access and e-mail. It also is important that they have a zip drive or other means to make regular backups. If interested please E-mail our Database Maintainer at db@heir.org
