Current Issues in Georgia : Cobb County Wrongly Requiring Homeschool Year to Begin Sept. 1
on 2005/8/8 21:40:00 (7876 reads)

Cobb County's Declaration of Intent wrongly states that the 12-month year you elect to homeschool must run from September 1st to August 31st...

Georgia Code 20-2-690 does require "a statement of the 12 month period that is to be considered the school year for that home study program," but nowhere gives school districts any authority over which dates are acceptable. Home educators in Georgia have always chosen the 12-month period for their own home study program.

If you live in Cobb County, do not be misled by this incorrect statement on the form you may have received from Cobb County Public Schools.
Choose your own 12-month school year. Instead of your county's form, you are encouraged to use HEIR's downloadable Declaration of Intent (see Quick Links on the Home page), which only requests the information required by Georgia law.
